Building effective web site designs - what's required to succeed online.

It is no longer good enough to just create a web site and expect people to beat a path to your door. To be successful in today’s world, you need to approach the web as an entire experience.

Whether we are creating a brand new web site presence or redesigning an existing web site, we take a step back and work with you to understand who your target audience is, discover what your unique selling proposition is, learn about your products and services, and understand what your vision is for your web site.

Your web site must act like a virtual salesperson to provide the information that your customer needs to understand your products and/or services but also instill enough trust to take the next step with your company.

This doesn't always mean that the customer places an order on your web site. It can also be contacting you to answer additional questions they have or requesting a free brochure or white paper.

Conversion in the form of qualified sales leads and orders are what truly matters at the end of the day. Refocusing your website in this manner positions your website to leap frog past your competition rather than just emulating them, and at the same time differentiates yourself from your competition.

This approach works for business web sites regardless of whether they are trying to sell real estate services, art landscape prints, or portrait photography services.

How we develop a new site or improve upon an existing web presence

Whether this is a new web site design, or we are optimizing an existing web site, we follow a similar process in developing your web site solution:

  • We begin by working with you to understand the goals of your web site, find out who your audience is, what products and services you plan to offer and also take a survey of your competition so we understand how you fit into the market place.

  • We will work with you to provide technical specifications for the imagery and provide suggestions on how to improve upon your existing content and what content you should consider creating. One thing that should be kept in mind is that all of your content needs to be written in "your voice" as it is your persona that people will associate with both your company and your web site.

  • If you do not already have a web site, we will help you secure your domain name and secure a hosting account for your web site.

  • Upon receiving your content and images, we will begin to look at logical grouping of content and how it aligns with the focus of your web site to formulate a proposed navigation scheme and begin building your web site.

  • Once we have agreed upon a navigation scheme and overall layout, we will leveraging our knowledge of web site design, usability and search engine optimization best practices, to blend all of this content together into a functional web site that will present a friendly user experience to your customers.

  • All throughout this process, you will find that we seek feedback and ask lots of questions to make sure that we are on the same page with how your web site and business ultimately will be represented to the world. When both parties deem the web site design ready, we enable it for the rest of the world to enjoy.

How do we bill for our services?

All of our web site design projects are billed at our development hourly rate as opposed to fixed bid project pricing. We perform this billing practice because we believe that that undercharging for the work we do is as bad for you as overcharging.

Fixed bid projects promote the practice of cutting corners and compromising quality to get the project done in as few hours as possible. We believe that our clients deserve the best solution we can provide them. After all, the best work has the greatest impact on your intended audience, and should help you acquire more customers than mediocre work.

Even with this billing practice, we do provide our clients with a general estimate before begining any design work so that your invoice from Critical Exposure will never be a surprise.
